Khaya Lungongolo from Good Shepherd Primary School, a grade 7 learner, was privileged to be nominated by Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. The foundation’s investment approach provides access to education and entrepreneurial development. Khanya stands a chance of being funded for further education by the foundation if her nomination is successful. She has to present an idea to the panel and complete a questionnaire. Khanya’s idea is to start a school garden that will be extended to community project. The grade seven class worked with Khanya to kick start the idea by planting vegetables that will supply the school nutrition programme. The Umtati Community Development Programme mentored the grade sevens to start and sustain the initiative.
