For the whole of January, the Grade 1’s have been using Lego blocks as part of their math lessons. They must use them to solve problems, make patterns and pack out numbers. This is a lovely concrete way of demonstrating these new math’s skills. Our class enjoys this very much and they get very competitive to see who can get to the correct answer first.
Since February 14 in order to make Math less scary to Grade 1’s they learnt some subtraction skills and got to demonstrate these by working with skittles. This meant that when “Linus the Minus” took some away they got to eat them. A very exciting and, we hope, memorable lesson.
